Ana Louisa Davis is a writer based on Minjungbal Country of the Bundjalung Nation in the far north coast of NSW, Australia.

Her creative work has been shortlisted and published in various literary competitions, anthologies and magazines.

She is currently researching a Masters in Creative Writing at Griffith University under the supervision of Dr Sally Breen.

Ana also has a background in freelance journalism and non-fiction writing specialising in yoga and wellbeing. She is the author of Moving with the Moon: Yoga, Movement and Meditation for Every Phase of your Menstrual Cycle and Beyond, published 2018.

She lives with her husband and a ridiculous amount of bush turkeys causing havoc in their large, wild garden.

  • ‘The Impersonator’, short play, selected for performance in the 2024 Drill Hall Theatre Hot Shorts - Short Play competition.

  • Short story, ‘The Impersonator’, longlisted in the 2023 Lane Cove Literary Prize.

  • Shortlisted in the 2023 Kill Your Darlings Creative Non-Fiction Essay Prize for my memoir essay, ‘The Lighthouse’.

  • Awarded Third Prize for my poem ‘Black Swans’ in the 2022 Kyogle Writers Festival Poetry Competition.

  • My non-fiction piece, ‘The Beach’, published in the online literary magazine Saltbush Review, Issue 1, 2022.

  • Highly Commended in the Mid North Coast Short Story Competition, 2022 for my short story, ‘Creeping Pines’.

  • Shortlisted in the 2021 Lane Cove Literary Prize and published in their 2021 Anthology for my short story, ‘Capture’.

  • ‘Grieve’, poem, published in the Grieve Volume 9 Anthology (2021).

  • Short play, ‘Special’, performed by award winning actor Louise Chapman at the Newcastle Fringe Show in 2022.

  • Short play ‘Kali Girl’, selected and performed at the Drill Hall Hot Shorts Play Writing Competition in 2022.

  • Longlisted in the Seizure Viva La Novella Prize, 2020, for my novella ‘Ricepaper Diaries’.

  • I am also a Varuna alumna (graduate of Vanessa Kirkpatrick’s Poetry Masterclass and more recently master class with Felicity Plunkett).

My qualifications…

I have a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing from Southern Cross University, a B.A. majoring in Drama and Japanese, and a First-Class Honours Degree in Japanese Feminism from the University of Newcastle. And I’m currently completing a Master of Arts (Research) in Creative Writing at Griffith University.
